How our city allocates public road space is a reflection of who it prioritizes. Toronto’s streets are dangerous by design and prioritize the movement of vehicular traffic, rather than the majority of people who get around by walking, taking transit, biking or wheeling.
During the pandemic, travel patterns changed significantly. With the return to in-person and hybrid workplaces and schools, paired with an increase in construction and development, there is an enormous opportunity to shift travel patterns in Toronto.
Prioritizing Vision Zero principles and investing in safe and convenient infrastructure is necessary if we want to meet the City’s TransformTO goal to have 75% of all trips under 5 km taken by transit and active transportation by 2030.
We deserve a better connected city that prioritizes the safety of all.
